REI Half Dome 2 Plus Tent

REI Half Dome 2 Plus Tent

As an avid backpacker, one of the most important pieces of gear that I have is my tent. I need something that is light enough to carry in my pack over long distances, but can also withstand the elements along the trail. I have found a product that matches almost all the criteria I was looking for with REI’s award-winning tent, the Half Dome 2 Plus. The original model has been around for many years and has become a long-time favorite among users, and REI has only continued to improve upon an already stellar product.

The set up of the Half Dome 2 Plus is very simple, with the color coding and hubbed pole making for a quick assembly. Inside, this tent is so spacious! There is plenty of room for 2 people, as well as all of their gear. With its 42-inch peak height and steep walls, there is also sufficient headroom, making it easy to move around. The tent has two doors that provide easy access, as well as two vestibules  for added storage. There are plenty of inner pockets too. The Half Dome has great ventilation even with the rainfly on, due to the four ceiling vents that allow for better airflow. It also handles poor weather well, keeping water from seeping in, and seems to withstand strong winds.

The only possible downside to this tent is that it is a little on the heavier side for a backpacking tent, with a packed weight of 5 lbs. 7 oz.  But personally, I do not mind trading a few pounds for better durability and value. REI has once again built a strong product that performs well in most conditions, and I am certainly a happy customer.

The Half Dome 2 Plus is available at REI for $219.00; www.rei.com
