The three peaks of Olomana are iconic features in windward O’ahu’s landscape. Each peak seem to bring its own challenge and level of difficulty, as if designed to test the skill, strength and will of hikers. The trail to the top of the first peak is only a mile and a half, but it is a rather unrelenting climb. Towards the top you may encounter a few steeper sections, some of which are accompanied by ropes to assist hikers. Power through until you reach the summit and you will be rewarded with an unbelievable 360 degree view. From here, you will catch your first glimpse at the rest of the trail – a narrow scramble along the ridgeline to the second peak, followed by a dangerous transition of repelling down the second peak and scaling up the third! Ropes and cables have been installed along these steep sections of the trails, but be sure to test the ropes before using them. We also recommend always keeping at least three points of contact on the trail – this means either two hands and one foot, or both feet and one hand gripping the rock. We do encourage experienced hikers to take the trip all the way out to the third peak, but make sure you don’t exceed your ability. Pack a lunch and plenty of water with you, and enjoy the challenge!

Getting There

By car: After exiting the Pali Highway (East), take a right at the third traffic light onto Auloa Road, and then take an immediate left onto the access road to the Luana Hills Country Club. Parking is available along this road before and after the bridge. Walk an additional quarter mile, passing by the guard shack, and look for the trail head on your left. It is marked by a weathered sign.

By bus: From Ala Moana, take Route 56 – Kailua-Kaneohe to the intersection of Kalanianaole Hwy and Auloa, then follow the directions above. (Walking distance from bus stop = approximately a half mile).
