Located just past Manoa Falls at the back of Manoa Valley is the Lyon Arboretum and Botanical Garden. Within the near 200 acres of land, visitors will find a large collection of various types of palms trees, gingers, Heliconias, and other tropical plants. There are a number of impressive “themed” gardens here, such as the Herb & Spice garden, Native Hawaiian garden, and the Ethnobotanical garden just to name a few. The trails that run through this tropical rainforest are well-maintained and are suitable for hikers of all abilities. ‘Aihualama Falls, located at the end of the main trail, is small but beautiful, and is worth the trip after a good rain. Be sure to stop by the visitor center for information on the gardens and to sign in before hitting the trails. Lyon Arboretum is open Monday-Friday from 8am-4pm and on Saturday from 9am-3pm, closed on Sunday.
By car: Follow the map below to Manoa Road until it ends just beyond Paradise Park. Entrance to the Lyon Arboretum is at the end of Manoa Road.
By bus: From town, take the Route 5 Manoa bus and ride it until it ends. Continue up the road approximately 0.6 miles to the arboretum.Click for Directions with Google Maps
